It is a core value of our church to be a blessing to the community in
which God has called us to serve. Throughout the year, we make it a
special point to focus on events and projects that will be a resource
and a blessing to people in the community, whether or not they come to
our church or even go to church at all! Our only goal in these times is
to be a living example of the love of Jesus without strings attached. (Galatians 6:9-10)
We call it the "biggest party in the county," and that is no exaggeration. Each year over a thousand people come to the free Harvest Party at the Columbia County Fairgrounds on October 31st. This is not a celebration of Halloween or spooky things, but it is a great time to play games, collect a bunch of candy, and spend some quality time with your family in a safe environment.
At Thanksgiving time we give away scores of boxes, decorated and filled with everything a family would need to have a full Thanksgiving meal. We understand that times are hard for a lot of people, and the many hands that serve this project pack a lot of love into the baskets that are hand delivered to families in need.
May Day Baskets
Back by popular demand, our love basket ministry has spilled out into a Springtime reprise, only with a full ham dinner.
School Supply Drive
Fall is a stressful time for many families, what with buying new school supplies and clothes. We donate and give away gift baskets to give families a head start on the supplies for the school year.
Begun in 2009 as a way of providing winter-time run for the community of St. Helens, the Reindeer Run is a benefit for Columbia County Toy-n-Joy (see below) and it offers a 5K, 10K, and a half-marathon. All are either run or walk.
As Christmas approaches, we always remember the kids in our community who may not have a lot under the tree. As families in our church shop for their own, they bring in presents to share with others who need to know that they are not forgotten at the celebration of the greatest gift of all, the birth of the Savior.
Every generation is precious to us. This project gathers little personal things that sometimes get taken for granted, things you would buy for yourself at the store. Then we are able to supply the local nursing homes with plenty to share when a need comes up.
St. Helens Parade
As a part of the community at large, both the kids and the youth sponsor joy-filled floats for the annual St. Helens parade. This is not just about winning the blue ribbon, but about showing our community that church is fun, and that Christians don't have to be stuck in the mud.
Vacation Bible School
Summer time is boredom time for a lot of kids. But each year, our army of volunteers pulls out all the stops to have a week long day-camp filled with positive teachings, songs, crafts, games, and lots of great friends. People from all over come to the VBS each year, and we love them and serve them as if they were our very own! (And you know, some of them are)
Children and Family Services
As most of our staff have either been fostor or adoptive parents, it is our great joy to share our facility with the State of Oregon Children and Family Services Department. Several times a week, we open our doors for the state to use our children's wing for supervised visitations, as a part of our vision to see families healed and restored.
